Copywriting projects

As a copywriting agency we have to be adept at turning our hands to many different corporate communications challenges and projects, in a wide range of business sectors. Here are just a few of the projects we are working on/have recently worked on.

Annual reports
We’re currently working on annual reports for two FTSE250 companies, one of them for the sixth year in succession – that’s annually retentive!

The other reports are for new clients in the pharma and insurance sectors: we have been working closely with the relevant design agencies to scope out the key strategic messages and objectives. Changes in reporting guidelines in recent years mean that clients are mindful to ensure that their reporting conforms to best practice.

Most reports require a combination of copywriting from scratch and editing: some copy will be originated from face-to-face interviews with the chairman and chief executive, the remainder being supplied as in-house draft copy which needs editing and styling for consistency of tone and approach.

Corporate brochures
Corporate brochures have an important role to play in companies’ promotional mix to highlight products, worldwide operations and future aspirations. Corporate brochures can give investors, stakeholders and customers a snapshot of the business.

A Lang writer recently put together a new corporate brochure for one of the world’s biggest media groups, from content proposal to sparkling copy. Delighted with the work to date, the client asked the writer to take on scripting a corporate video to accompany the brochure launch.

Feature writing
We work on a number of external corporate communications publications for our clients, for one of which our copywriter put together the issue’s main feature on cyber terrorism.

A range of high-level technical features and thoughtpieces place this client at the cutting edge of their sector, in this instance technical and business services and maritime classification.

Commentary for client seminars
Based on the raw material of a lengthy presentation and around 100 powerpoint slides, our copywriter is developing a succinct but engaging commentary to accompany an investment management company’s seminar for professional clients. This will be the sixth of these seminars our writer has been asked to work on.

For the same client we also edit and proofread copy for their quarterly investment publications for customers.

Membership scheme marketing collateral
We worked recently on the copywriting elements of a new membership scheme for one of London’s most prestigious arts organisations, aimed at engaging its members and potential members more closely with its aims and events, including its philanthropic projects.

The designers tasked with creating the look and feel for the new scheme brought our copywriter in to work with them and their client to generate fresh, engaging and impactful copy for a range of membership marketing materials.

Website proof reading
When the property management company of one of the UK’s most famous shopping and eating destinations was preparing to launch a massive new website, they asked us to proofread each and every page and check every weblink was working correctly.

In all we proofed and marked up (using an online proofing app called Snagit) more than 500 pages.

Website copywriting
We’re writing copy for the new HR section of the corporate website of one of Germany’s biggest engineering companies. This covers:

  • Initial conversations with comms co-ordinators from the different divisions to define the key areas of focus for their web pages
  • Copywriting the 12 leadership traits and values of working for the company
  • Copywriting business stories, industry sector stories and technology stories to raise the profile and awareness of the divisions’ activities
  • Copywriting employee stories that showcase people’s skills and the range of careers available within the company

The main challenge has been to work with corporate communication co-ordinators across Europe, sourcing potential stories and shaping them into a consistent and accessible tone of voice.

Case studies
We regularly work on case studies for one of the UK’s foremost financial institutions, demonstrating successful client solutions, and on advertorials that cover key issues that impact clients as well as the products that address them. We also work on factsheets and apps for new investment banking products.
